Surveyor has been one of the leaders in travel trailers for years. Now they’re building fifth wheels, and the 2027 Surveyor 36MB is the one that got my attention. Two central vac systems. An outdoor bar built into the side of the coach. A dinette that pulls out for four or converts to a desk. And a mid-bunk setup that gives the kids a room with a door.
I’m a sucker for a good mid-bunk, and this one does things I don’t see every day. Here’s the full walkthrough.

What I Liked
The Trailgate outdoor bar is the best exterior feature I’ve seen this year. A pass-through window opens from the kitchen to a bar setup on the outside wall, shaded by the awning, with outlets, a bottle opener, an LP quick connect for a griddle, and mounts you can disconnect and rearrange. TV mount, paper towel holder, prong holder — all removable. You set it up how you want it. That’s a campsite you actually want to sit at.
Two central vac systems. One upstairs, one on the main floor. I’ve never seen that in a coach this size and I’d use both.
The Bar2Table dinette. It pulls out to seat four, snaps back to a smaller footprint, or works as a desk. Behind it is one big open window looking out at the campsite. If you work on the road or just want a spot to sit with coffee and a view, this is a smarter piece of furniture than a fixed dinette.
CURT Touring Coil Suspension. Surveyor’s testing puts it at cutting 50% of road vibration. You’re not taking this off-road, but a quieter tow means less shaken loose by the time you get there. Paired with the CURT Helux pin box, ABS brakes and Goodyear Endurance tires with banded TPMS, the towing hardware on this rig is a genuine step up.
The mid-bunk is a real room. Pocket door, pull-out sofa, a dedicated desk with storage above and below, outlets, a spot for a TV, a mirror, and a ladder to the upper bunk with a grab handle built into the frame. There’s enough space to stand and get dressed. Kids, guests, office, gaming room — it flexes.
The televator. The TV raises for viewing and lowers to expose the window behind it and give you back counter space. Combined with the 4,800 BTU fireplace and the globe lighting, the rear living area is the nicest room in the coach.
Fishing rod mounts on the exterior. Small thing that solves a real problem. I don’t want rods rattling around inside my own rig, and here they’ve got a dedicated home. Same thinking shows up in the pass-through: dedicated spots for the bar table and gear rather than one big empty hole.
North-to-south bed that actually works. I’m usually not a fan, because you can’t walk around them. Surveyor added enough length that you can get down both sides and across the front. At 6’1″ and 320 I had room, and there’s roughly 6’4″ of headroom in the bedroom.
400 watts of solar standard, with inverter prep and 50 amp service. That’s a strong starting point rather than the usual 200W you have to build on.
What To Know Before You Buy
Load it with the fresh tank in mind. Cargo capacity is 1,701 lb and the fresh tank holds 110 gallons — that’s about 913 lb of water if you fill it. Travel with the tank low and fill at the campground and you’ve got most of your capacity back for gear. Roll in full and loaded and you’ll be tight. Worth knowing how you plan to camp before you order, and worth a CAT scale run once you’re loaded the way you actually travel.
The third A/C is prep, not an installed unit. You get the 18K ducted Chill Cube with heat pump plus a bedroom A/C standard, which is a strong setup. The third is wiring only. If you camp the South in summer, price the install up front.
This is Surveyor’s first run at a fifth wheel. They’ve built travel trailers a long time and it shows in the details, but any new line gets refined over its first year. Worth asking your dealer which production run your unit is from, same as you would with any debut product.
Who This RV Is For
Families with kids who need their own space. The mid-bunk closes off with a pocket door, has its own desk and TV spot, and the loft adds sleeping room without another slide. This is the floorplan that keeps everybody from being on top of each other.
People who camp outside. The Trailgate bar, dual awnings at 11 and 21 feet, exterior speakers, the outside kitchen and the fishing rod mounts all point the same direction. If your best nights are spent at the site rather than in front of the TV, this coach was designed for you.
Buyers who want fifth wheel space without a top-tier price. Surveyor sits in the value lane, but the suspension package, 400W of solar, dual central vac and solid surface counters are things you’d normally pay up for.
Anyone working from the road. Two desks — one in the main living area, one in the bunk room — plus Starlink prep and a wireless charging station.
Who Should Skip It
- Heavy packers — 1,701 lb of cargo capacity fills up fast with a family’s gear.
- Long-haul boondockers — big fresh tank, but 43 gallons of black is the limiter.
- Couples wanting a rear living suite — you’re paying for a bunk room you won’t use.
- Buyers who want luxury-tier finishes — this is a well-built value rig, not a top-shelf coach.
Frequently Asked Questions
What truck do I need for the Surveyor 36MB?
Dry pin weight is 2,045 lb against a 14,045 lb GVWR. A well-equipped 3/4-ton handles this comfortably for most buyers. Check your truck’s payload sticker rather than the tow rating — payload is what limits you on a fifth wheel.
How many people does it sleep?
King bed in the front suite, a trifold sofa in the bunk room, an upper bunk rated to 200 lb, a loft, and a pull-out in the living area. Realistically a family of six sleeps here without anybody drawing the short straw.
What is the Trailgate bar?
An exterior bar built into the side of the coach, fed by a pass-through window from the kitchen. It has outlets, a bottle opener, an LP quick connect for a griddle, and removable mounts for a TV, table and accessories so you can configure it how you like.
Is Surveyor new to fifth wheels?
Yes. Surveyor has been a major name in travel trailers for years and recently expanded into the fifth wheel segment. The 36MB is part of that line.
What is CURT Touring Coil Suspension?
A coil-based suspension system in place of traditional leaf springs. Surveyor’s testing shows it removing roughly 50% of road vibration, which means a quieter tow and less shaking loose inside the coach on the way to your site.
How much solar comes standard?
400 watts with inverter prep, which is double what most rigs in this class ship with.
